First day of moving!

We woke up pretty early, and stayed up on the previous night really late. 5 hours of sleep and still up.
Today was the worst day of procrastination and laziness. Probably because it was really hot, and it rained on and off. We picked up the u-haul by 9:45am started loading even when it was raining (that was fun) but didn't get over to the house until almost 3pm. We unloaded came home about 530ish (shorter time unloading) took a shower and headed back out the door by 630pm. we went to home depot. picked out the paint colors for our living room, kitchen, and office. Totally excited about that.
We also picked up the last of our faux wood blinds, and carpet that we are installing in our bedroom and office tomorrow. another long day. a lot of cleaning as well.

The contractors are not done, they goofed or did something wrong, but they didn't do the work up to par that we expected. We are not happy campers. Our bedroom and office do not have electricity, and certain switches don't work as well as a few other things. Also the a/c either ran out of coolant or has a leak, along with the plumber didn't fix the drains. we called today, and no one came out. Hopefully tomorrow. We probably wont be officially moved in until next week. No a/c and other stuff its just not completely habitable. Ugh. Double Ugh.

Tough rough day, thankfully, we made it all out in one piece, added a few more bruises to our collections, and only broke one thing.

Going to try and un-wind ginger is passed out asleep. Lucky her! I'm thinking about all we need to do tomorrow. Damn brain!

About to move in!

The house renovations are almost complete just a little mud work where the people messed up on the wallS. Now, i would think they would have to clean up after themselves. But apparently not. The house is HORRIBLY filthy. To make matters worse, we both work night shifts this weekend, and we have a u-haul scheduled for 9am Monday morning. We don't need sleep right? right???

We weren't planning on moving in until we took a mini vacation July 12th through the 16th so we could get the house painted and so forth, but with the threat of our home owners policy canceling on the 29th of this month due to the house being vacant we have no other choice. Of course being a first time home buyer, i didn't know the rules of the policy and it being vacant was a no no. Oopsie!

things to accomplish on the 27th-29th

  1. try not to kill each other (haha)
  2. deep clean entire house
  3. move in!
  4. re-finish bath tub
  5. install fan in our bedroom & track light in kitchen
  6. attempt some painting
  7. attempt to un-pack
  8. find time to relax!

We haven't decided on any interior paint colors just the outside, which is totally ass backwards!

After all the hard work i know we will have what we want, just getting there is the hard part. I wish we could just snap our fingers and everything will be set. I guess we will be taking it day by day.

We will be having a housewarming party either in August or Early September depending on how far long we get. We will be sending out invites, if anyone is wanting to attend just shoot ginger or i and email so we make sure your on the list to receive a mailed invite.

For those who read this, thank you for taking this journey with us.

House Update!

We finally went and got blinds for the house from home depot. We decided on faux wood blinds. Things are slowly coming together. We were hoping to be in the house by the 29th of this month, but not sure if this is going to happen considering its the 22nd now. The electrical work has not started and it is very frustrating. I am supposing this is part of owning a home. Things sometimes don't go as planned. When the wait is over it will be well worth it. Lots of hard work and dedication is going into this just to get moved in and years more of work to come. I may add I am so lucky to have ginger by my side through all of this. I can be very pessimistic and she is more positive and picks me up when i am down and frustrated. She definitely helps me out a lot. Not much else to really update about. We are putting in the blinds tomorrow, and hopefully pulling out the carpet to inspect the original hard woods. Keeping my fingers crossed they are not completely ruined! Thanks for reading and sharing on this journey with us!

Renovations Started!!

New Update!

Renovations FINALLY started on June 14th 2010. Some contractors were out replacing some rotten wood on the outside siding, as well as built a stand for the new water heater that is going to be put in.
We are on a time crunch due to our homeowners insurance that needs us in by June 29th otherwise they have to rewrite out policy for a vacant house. The say that our house is more at risk due it being vacant. I understand that but the crime rate is not like Houston in Alvin. Keep your fingers crossed we make the deadline. We are currently waiting on electricians to come to the house to redo the ENTIRE electrical system so its updated and to code. The current wiring was done in the 50's which is scary thought!

Another update is my dad mowed the yard after its been growing for a month. He ended up with poison ivy. He had to go to the doctor today because of a severe allergic reaction and also inhaling it spreads it like wild fire through the body. Doctors visit and steroid shot in the butt and he is on his way to recovery. We had so much rain the past few weeks at the house the grass was turning into a mini jungle!

More to come!!

First Entry

Our friend Alicia, has a blog, and it inspired us to do one as well. To document our journeys.

We recently became first time home buyers on May 13th 2010. It was a difficult and long road, but we made a dream happen! 26 and we own our own house. At this moment our house is under going renovations. Our house is a 1950's ranch style home. It's a fixer upper and a good starter house.
Here are the pictures off the HAR.com listing. Ill add more as we add our own touches.
The house is a 3br 1bath 1100 sq feet house with fenced in back yard. Perfect for our three dogs, two cats and various other critters we have in our zoo!
